Zoop, the embedded finance company owned by iFood, now operates as a card acquirer. It previously worked as a subacquirer, a payment institution, and a direct Pix participant. The company recorded R$155 billion in total payment volume over the last 12 months.
New central bank rules
The move follows Brazil's Resolution 522, published by the central bank in November 2025. The rule updates centralized risk management for payment arrangements. It also gives new responsibilities to subacquirers and marketplaces.
Customer base
Zoop serves more than 50 accounts, including iFood, Olist, Banco Cora, and Conta Azul. iFood will be the first client to use Zoop's own acquiring operation. The company plans to extend the structure to other clients over time.
Multi-acquirer model
Zoop will keep operating as a multi-acquirer alongside current partners. Direct connections with card brands remove one intermediary from the payment flow. A fallback setup redirects transactions to improve approval rates and stability.
Zoop aims to reach R$200 billion in total payment volume. It also plans to launch an agentic payments solution for AI agents. The company says it will pursue that target through innovation rather than price competition.
