Tutor Intelligence has raised $75 million in a Series B round led by Andreessen Horowitz. The Watertown, Massachusetts company builds and deploys robots for manufacturing and logistics work. Union Square Ventures and Neo also joined the round.
Use of funds
The new round brings Tutor’s total funding to $117 million. The money will support training for its robot foundation models. It will also fund manufacturing and deployment of its Sonny and Cassie robot workers.
Company growth
Tutor was founded out of MIT CSAIL and is based in Watertown. Its robots now operate in almost four times as many facilities as a year ago. They handle goods such as cereals, snacks, cosmetics, home goods, and toys.
Business model
Tutor sells robot work by the hour or by the pick. Customers make no upfront purchase and sign no long-term contract. The company handles deployment, maintenance, and regular software upgrades.
Tutor expects to have more than 1,000 robots under contract by the end of 2027. All systems will be built in and deployed from the United States. Nearly a third of customers in the past 12 months were existing clients adding more robots.
