Agricultural biotechnology firm Moa Technology has successfully closed a £22.2 million Series C financing round to advance its innovative herbicide discovery platform. The funding was co-led by Oxford Science Enterprises and Supernova Invest, signaling strong investor confidence in the company's mission. This capital injection will accelerate the development of new solutions to combat the growing global challenge of weed resistance in agriculture.

Broad Investor Support and Key Industry Collaborations

New investors, including Agri Investment Fund and GrainInnovate, have joined the round, connecting Moa directly to the farming sector. Existing investors such as Lansdowne Partners, Parkwalk, and Oxford University Innovation also participated, demonstrating continued belief in the company's trajectory. This diverse backing underscores the widespread recognition of the urgent need for new weed control technologies in modern agriculture.

The investment builds on Moa's significant commercial progress, including research and development collaborations with four industry leaders. Partnerships with Nufarm, Gowan, Certis Belchim, and Corteva Agriscience validate Moa's technology and provide a clear route to market. The company anticipates forging additional commercial partnerships, further solidifying its position as a preferred innovation partner in crop protection.

Pioneering Solutions to Herbicide Resistance

Moa's proprietary technology platforms represent a major breakthrough in addressing the critical issue of herbicide-resistant weeds. The company has already identified over 80 novel mode of action areas, which offer entirely new ways to control problematic weeds. These discoveries have been validated in lab and glasshouse settings and are now performing strongly in international field trials.

In a significant development, the company recently unveiled a new product category called Moa Amplifiers™. These compounds are not herbicides themselves but work to enhance the efficacy of existing products. This innovation has the potential to reduce the overall amount of herbicide needed, promoting greater environmental stewardship and supporting farm productivity.

Strategic Allocation of Capital for Growth

The Series C funding is earmarked for specific strategic priorities to propel the company's most promising innovations toward commercial reality. A primary focus will be advancing its three leading herbicide programmes through the development pipeline. The capital will also be used to expand its portfolio of early-stage novel herbicides and further develop the Moa Amplifiers programme.

Leaders from the investment firms highlighted the critical timing of this funding as weed resistance and climate change increasingly threaten farm resilience. The capital enables Moa to redefine the innovation playbook for weed control, expanding the toolbox available to farmers worldwide. This support is crucial for sustaining agricultural productivity and ensuring the long-term viability of farming operations globally.

This £22.2 million financing round marks a pivotal moment for Moa Technology, validating its scientific progress and commercial strategy. With robust backing and a pipeline of groundbreaking solutions, the company is well-positioned to deliver a new generation of weed control tools. Moa's work is set to play a crucial role in enhancing agricultural sustainability and safeguarding global food security for the future.
