FluoRok raised $30 million in Series A funding. Orano Venture Fund and Supernova Invest led the round. The Oxford spinout has developed a production method for fluorochemicals that avoids hydrogen fluoride.

Funding details

The round was oversubscribed and exceeded its original target. New investors included Bidra Innovation Ventures, CPI Enterprises, EverQuest Capital Partners, and WS Investment. Existing backers such as Oxford Science Enterprises, BGF, and the University of Oxford also returned.

Company origins and focus

FluoRok was founded in 2022 by chemistry professor Véronique Gouverneur and Gabriele Pupo. The company targets fluorochemicals for pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and lithium-ion batteries. It previously raised $14 million in equity and more than $13 million in public funding.

How the technology works

FluoRok uses mechanical activation rather than acid or high heat. The method runs on standard industrial equipment and can use lower-grade fluorspar or fluoride recovered from industrial waste. Initial product targets include inorganic fluorides and lithium hexafluorophosphate.

The new capital will fund demonstrator facilities for reagents and battery electrolyte salts. It will also support hiring, customer validation at scale, and expanded commercial partnerships. FluoRok plans to move from pilot operations to industrial production.
