Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has announced plans to open a new office in Singapore in October, marking its fifth location in the Asia Pacific region. The expansion aims to support growing enterprise demand for its Claude AI model, which has gained significant traction in the city-state. The move places Anthropic alongside other leading AI developers that are building a stronger presence in Singapore.
Anthropic Expands Asia Pacific Footprint
The new Singapore office will join existing regional offices in Tokyo, Bengaluru, Seoul and Sydney. Anthropic has not specified a precise opening date, but senior executives are expected to visit Singapore in October to meet customers, partners and policymakers. The company has also confirmed that the workspace will be located in Raffles Place, within The Executive Centre facility at Ocean Financial Centre.
The decision reflects Singapore's growing importance as a base for AI companies serving Asia and beyond. Anthropic's presence is expected to strengthen collaboration with local organisations and accelerate the adoption of its technology. It also positions the company to respond more quickly to the needs of regional customers across Southeast Asia and the wider Asia Pacific.
Strong Local Demand for Claude
Anthropic said Singapore has established itself as a standout market for Claude. Based on the company's latest Economic Index, the Republic ranks second out of 121 countries for Claude usage per capita. Local adoption is running 5.81 times higher than expected relative to the nation's population size, with particularly strong demand in regulated sectors such as financial services and government.
Chris Ciauri, managing director of international at Anthropic, described the Singapore office as a natural next step given the city's high per capita usage. He said the company plans to work with organisations from startups and digital natives to large enterprises and the public sector. A local presence, he added, will allow Anthropic to hire people who understand the market and work closely with customers and partners building with Claude.
Leadership and Local Hiring
Anthropic has appointed Dale Finlay as general manager for ASEAN, and he will be based in Singapore. In this role, he will work with customers and partners across Southeast Asia. Finlay previously held leadership roles at technology companies across Asia Pacific, including nearly a decade at Google Cloud in go to market positions spanning enterprise, financial services and AI portfolios.
To support the new entity, Anthropic has started hiring for several operational roles in Singapore. Its careers site currently lists nine open positions across finance, sales, applied AI, marketing and public benefit. The recruitment drive underscores the company's intention to build a multidisciplinary team on the ground quickly and support regional growth.
Singapore's Growing AI Hub
Anthropic pointed to Singapore's high concentration of technical talent, global businesses, research institutions and a strong innovation ecosystem. The company also highlighted the government's push to use AI to transform industries and strengthen workforce capabilities while emphasising responsible adoption. Anthropic said this balance between innovation and safety aligns closely with its own approach.
Singapore continues to attract major AI developers, reinforcing its status as a regional technology hub. In May, OpenAI announced it would open its first Applied AI Lab outside the United States in Singapore and hire more than 200 specialists as part of a S$300 million investment. Anthropic, which is backed by Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC, is the latest global AI firm to expand its physical presence in the city.
