Salesforce has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Rune Technologies, an edge-native logistics software provider for the U.S. military and allied nations. The company says its defense business grew 80% year over year and serves all 6 U.S. military branches. Rune helps frontline teams forecast supply needs and make decisions in low-connectivity environments.
What the acquisition adds
Rune will broaden Salesforce's Missionforce portfolio with logistics tools for the tactical edge. Its software connects enterprise systems to live operational data. It keeps working in denied, degraded, intermittent, or limited connectivity and syncs when networks return.
Company and customer base
Rune was founded in 2024 by David Tuttle and Peter Goldsborough. Its technology is already deployed with the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps. Salesforce recently secured a 10-year U.S. Army contract with a $5.6 billion ceiling.
How the platform works
Rune's software uses simulation and optimization models to forecast demand and resupply needs. The tools recommend resource allocation and transportation routing. Units already using Rune can have edge decisions flow into enterprise systems without custom integration.
The acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter of Salesforce's fiscal year 2027. Closing remains subject to customary conditions. The deal would mark Salesforce's most significant national security acquisition.
