South Korean startup WAION has received 2 Samsung Electronics patents free of charge through a government-backed technology-sharing program. The patents cover wireless network access and image-based data communication. WAION plans to use them to improve the reliability of AI vision systems at manufacturing plants in Indonesia.
Patent transfer details
The transfer was part of a 2026 initiative involving South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Samsung Electronics. The patents carry registration numbers 10-1600472 and 10-1952213. WAION plans to use them to improve wireless connections between industrial cameras and edge computers.
Testing with an Indonesian manufacturer
WAION operates LeadNOW, a B2B buyer discovery service, and WebiNOW, a platform for managing corporate webinars. The company is extending its video analysis technology into manufacturing. It is testing AI vision systems with PT Frina Lestari Nusantara, an Indonesian automotive parts manufacturer.
How the technology works
The trial focuses on injection molding and assembly processes. Industrial cameras capture footage, while edge computers analyze it on site to reduce video transfers to external servers. WAION plans to link the analysis results to factory management systems, helping supervisors monitor production and respond to issues.
WAION will use the Indonesian trial to refine its AI functions and operating procedures for individual processes. It plans to introduce verified features gradually based on the testing results. The company also aims to commercialize its AI vision solutions for other manufacturing businesses in Indonesia.
