Mumbai-based W Health Ventures has announced the close of its second fund at INR 700 crore, oversubscribed against an initial target of INR 630 crore. The fund plans to build eight to ten healthcare companies from the pre-idea stage to category leaders over the next four years. The announcement reinforces the firm's position as a specialist healthcare company creation investor in India.

A Dedicated Healthcare Creation Fund

W Health Ventures describes itself as India's first healthcare company creation fund, built around a fifty-person in-house team of physicians, operators, and technologists. The team identifies structural gaps in healthcare delivery and spends twelve to eighteen months pressure-testing each opportunity before committing capital. Once an opportunity is sufficiently derisked, the firm recruits an exceptional founding team to build and scale the company.

Targeting Structural Gaps in Care

Dr. Pankaj Jethwani, Managing Partner at W Health Ventures, said India is at an inflection point in healthcare where rising demand and constrained supply create a structural mismatch. He noted that this mismatch is where lasting businesses are built, and that the difficulty of building in healthcare is precisely where the value lies. Jethwani added that the fund focuses on solving problems that require first-to-market solutions rather than importing a Silicon Valley playbook.

A High-Bar Diligence Process

The fund's diligence approach is deliberately rigorous, with opportunities refined over as long as eighteen months before a company is launched. Jethwani explained that founders are not handed a cheque and a good-luck wish, but instead step into ventures that have been ideated, designed, and derisked before day one. The second fund is intended to apply this thesis faster, both inside India and across the US-India corridor.

Early Traction in Fund II

Fund II's first two companies scaled rapidly within months of launch, according to the firm. Everhope Oncology, founded with Narayana Health, is advancing coordinated and patient-centered oncology care, while Everbright Health is scaling advanced interventions for treatment-resistant depression in the United States. These early ventures illustrate the fund's focus on difficult healthcare problems and its ability to move quickly once a company is formed.

Expanding Across the US-India Corridor

The second fund's mandate includes building companies both within India and across the US-India corridor, reflecting a broader geographic ambition. The firm believes that certain healthcare innovations can be developed in one market and adapted for the other, creating larger opportunities for scale. This corridor strategy is designed to help portfolio companies access new patients, partners, and sources of growth.

Investor Alignment and Patient Reach

W Health Ventures expressed gratitude for the commitment from its limited partners, noting that many come from within the healthcare ecosystem. The firm said this alignment is especially meaningful because investors with healthcare experience understand the complexity and time required to build lasting companies. Across its portfolio, W Health Ventures companies have reached 25 million patients to date, demonstrating meaningful population-level impact.

The close of Fund II signals growing institutional confidence in a company creation model designed specifically for healthcare. By pairing patient capital with internal clinical and operational expertise, W Health Ventures aims to turn structural gaps into scalable businesses across India and the United States. The next four years will test whether this approach can consistently produce category leaders in a complex sector.
