Transcelestial has expanded its total funding to $34.7 million after closing an additional $9.7 million round to accelerate its work in Japan. The new capital is aimed at strengthening the country’s critical communications for disaster response, national defense, and emerging space infrastructure through laser-based connectivity. The announcement marks a significant step in positioning Japan for high-capacity, resilient networks where traditional fiber deployments are slow, costly, or physically constrained.


Strategic Funding to Strengthen Japan’s Connectivity

The latest round brings in MPower Partners as a new investor, alongside renewed commitments from SEEDS, the investment arm of SG Growth Capital, and Kickstart Ventures. They join existing strategic backers such as NTT Finance, Golden Egg Ventures, and Australian deeptech investor Paspalis Capital, many of whom are closely aligned with Japan’s telecom and infrastructure landscape. Together, this investor group is betting on Transcelestial’s laser technology as a core enabler of Japan’s next generation of digital resilience.

Accelerating Disaster-Resilient Communications

Japan’s communications infrastructure is repeatedly tested by earthquakes, typhoons, and other natural disasters that can disrupt ground-based networks. Transcelestial’s wireless laser links are designed to restore or extend connectivity within hours rather than days, supporting emergency services, hospitals, and essential businesses when conventional infrastructure fails. Because the solution does not rely on trenching fiber or laying cables, it can operate as an independent overlay that keeps critical services online during and after extreme events.

Advancing Secure Defense Networks

Beyond disaster recovery, the company is targeting applications across Japan’s defense ecosystem, including use cases for the Japan Self-Defense Forces on land, at sea, and in the air. MPower Partners points to early pilots, alignment with national telcos, and defense-related conversations as indicators that the technology is becoming strategically relevant, not just experimental. SEEDS and Kickstart Ventures emphasize that Transcelestial has already proven its model in markets such as the Philippines and is now scaling from its Singapore base into Japan, the United States, and other high-demand geographies.

NTT Finance views the investment as a way to help Japan address urban density challenges, fast-growing data needs, and infrastructure resiliency using an optical layer that complements existing networks rather than replacing them outright. Paspalis Capital, which focuses on deeptech and remote connectivity, sees Transcelestial’s systems as a practical tool to close infrastructure gaps and support long-term regional economic growth. Together, these backers frame the company’s technology as applied infrastructure, designed to solve concrete problems rather than exist as innovation for its own sake.

Transcelestial has mass-produced a wireless laser communication solution that creates high-speed links between buildings, cell towers, street-level poles, and other physical assets. By avoiding fiber trenching and reducing operational overhead, the platform targets lower total costs for mobile network operators, internet service providers, and large enterprises that need rapid, scalable capacity.
