Schneider Children's Medical Center and Clalit Health Services have launched a venture fund for pediatric healthcare. The fund is called Schneider Children's VC, or SCVC. It raised about US$20 million in an initial closing and is targeting around US$50 million.

Who is backing the fund

Anchor investors include Schneider, Clalit, the Dor Group, and managing partner Ronen Gadot. The fund has already invested in three companies. Individual investments range from US$500,000 to US$3 million.

How the fund works

SCVC operates as a separate entity from the hospital. It can evaluate companies, teams, and products in a clinical setting before investing. The fund also has access to Clalit data.

Pediatric focus

Schneider promotes technology built specifically for children rather than adapted adult tools. Children make up about 30% of Israel's population. It calls this approach Tech-Ped.

Operations began in February after an agreement with Clalit. The fund has evaluated approximately 170 companies since then. It plans to work with major technology companies in data and AI on earlier disease detection.
