OSSTEC closed an $8 million funding round led by EMBRYO Ventures. The UK-based orthopedic company develops 3D-printed cementless joint replacement implants. The funds will support first-in-human U.S. surgical cases of its ASCENT cementless partial knee system.

Funding plans

The capital will take ASCENT and its CLARITY instrumentation through FDA clearance. U.S. first-in-human procedures are planned for the first half of 2027. Other participants include Neovate Capital, New Wave Ventures, Oxford Technology Innovation Finance, and Empirical Ventures.

Company background

The company was founded in 2021 as a startup from Imperial College London. It is headquartered in the UK and runs U.S. operations through OSSTEC Inc. U.S. operations were established earlier this year.

How ASCENT works

ASCENT is a cementless, fixed-bearing partial knee system built on a 3D-printed biomimetic fixation platform. The design aims to enable biological fixation without cement. OSSTEC says cementless fixation reduces loosening, a leading cause of revision, and can suit more active patients.

OSSTEC will attend the 2026 AAHKS Annual Meeting from November 5 to 8 in Grapevine, Texas. ASCENT and CLARITY are not yet cleared by the FDA or available for sale in the United States. The company is also expanding a pipeline of cementless applications beyond partial knee replacement and evaluating integration with robotic surgery platforms.
