Mastercard has entered a partnership with Busha, a pan-African digital asset exchange, to extend Mastercard Crypto Credential across Africa and bring greater trust to digital asset transfers. The initiative is effective immediately for eligible Busha users in Nigeria, who can now use a unique credential alias instead of traditional blockchain addresses. This development positions Busha among the first digital asset exchanges on the continent to activate the solution and expand its network of verified users.

Simplifying Digital Asset Transfers

The credential system is intended to give users greater confidence that funds are being directed to a trusted recipient by linking them to endpoints that meet Mastercard verification standards. It replaces lengthy blockchain addresses with a straightforward, verified alias that users can share when receiving digital assets. Before a transfer is finalized, the solution also verifies that the recipient can accept the selected asset on the intended blockchain, helping to reduce failed or misdirected transactions.

Automatic Enrollment for Busha Users

Starting immediately, all eligible Busha users in Nigeria receive a unique Crypto Credential alias attached to their existing account. Because the verification process is handled at the platform level, there is no additional setup for users, and the credential is issued automatically for supported transfers. This allows participants to send and receive digital assets using an email address or phone number, reducing the complexity and potential errors often linked to blockchain addresses.

Cross-Platform Reach and Interoperability

The aliases function across participating exchanges and wallets in the Crypto Credential ecosystem, allowing Busha users to transact with one another and with users on other supported platforms. This interoperability broadens the network of verified endpoints and creates a more consistent transfer experience across services. It also provides both users and institutions with greater assurance that funds are being sent to verified recipients regardless of the platform involved.

Leadership Perspectives on the Partnership

Gabriel Swanepoel, division president for Africa at Mastercard, said digital asset transfers should be as intuitive and trusted as other forms of digital payments. He noted that every verified Busha user becomes reachable through a simple email address or phone number, supporting secure digital asset infrastructure across Africa. Michael Adeyeri, co-founder and CEO of Busha, added that the partnership makes digital assets more practical, accessible and trusted for everyday users while reinforcing security and compliance standards.

Supporting Mainstream Adoption in Africa

As digital assets continue to gain momentum across Africa for investing, remittances and cross-border commerce, trusted and easy-to-use infrastructure is becoming essential for mainstream adoption. The introduction of Mastercard Crypto Credential reflects Busha’s broader mission to make digital finance more intuitive, accessible and secure for everyday users. By offering verified aliases and platform-level checks, the partnership addresses common friction points that have slowed wider participation in the digital asset economy.

Mastercard and Busha are addressing common barriers to cryptocurrency adoption by combining trusted verification standards with a simpler user experience for everyday transfers. The partnership signals a broader push toward secure and simplified digital asset infrastructure that can serve both retail and institutional participants across Nigeria and the wider African market. As the ecosystem evolves, collaborations of this nature are likely to shape how digital value moves across borders and platforms in the years ahead.
