Portuguese startups attracted acquisition interest in 2026 as buyers pursued specialized technology, technical teams, operating capabilities, and complementary products. Between January 1 and September 17, 12 acquisitions involving startups primarily associated with Portugal were publicly disclosed or confirmed. The transactions spanned enterprise software, energy, logistics, Web3, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, sustainability, and construction technology.

Methodology

This mapping covers acquisitions of Portuguese startups first publicly announced between January 1 and September 17, 2026. Eligibility is based on the date of the first verifiable public announcement, not the date on which the transaction was signed, completed, or otherwise took effect. Transactions completed before 2026 therefore remain eligible if their acquisition was first publicly disclosed during the covered period. The acquisitions are ordered chronologically by their earliest public announcement date.

The acquiree had to be primarily associated with Portugal’s startup ecosystem before the transaction. Eligibility considered founding roots, core operations, principal teams, and recognized ecosystem identity rather than legal domicile alone, with startup-origin scaleups and qualifying spin-offs included when they retained a credible connection to the ecosystem. Traditional service providers, mature corporations without a startup profile, and businesses lacking a substantial connection to Portugal were excluded.

The buyer could be based anywhere and could be a startup, corporation, investment firm, or another type of organization. Transactions were checked using company announcements where available, institutional sources connected to the companies, and credible media reporting. Minority investments, funding rounds, purchases limited to individual assets or intellectual property rather than an operating business, mergers, and acquisitions publicly announced before January 1 or after September 17, 2026, were excluded regardless of when the transaction itself closed.
