Harvey, a legal artificial intelligence company founded in 2022, has secured a major new investment that underscores the rapid maturation of AI in professional services. The company announced a $550 million funding round at a $15.5 billion valuation, marking one of the largest raises in the legal technology sector. The round was co-led by Diffusion and Lightspeed Venture Partners, with participation from new and existing investors.

Funding Round and Valuation

The $550 million round values Harvey at $15.5 billion and follows a $200 million raise roughly six months earlier that valued the company at $11 billion. Diffusion and Lightspeed Venture Partners co-led the new financing, with Sapphire Ventures and Whale Rock joining as new investors. Existing backers Sequoia, Kleiner Perkins, Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Coatue, Conviction, Elad Gil, Evantic, GIC, Goldman Sachs Alternatives, Verified Capital, and WNDR also participated.

Market Adoption and Global Reach

Harvey now reports more than 2,400 clients in 70 countries and over 200,000 lawyers using its platform. The company says 80 percent of the Am Law 100 law firms use Harvey, alongside legal teams at five of the Fortune 10. Those figures reflect growing demand for AI tools tailored to high-value legal work.

Product Milestones and Open Model Strategy

Recent product milestones have positioned Harvey beyond a single application and toward broader legal intelligence infrastructure. The company released its first post-trained open-weight model and launched Harvey LAB, a Legal Agent Benchmark for evaluating specialized legal agents. Harvey II, introduced in August, brought a new generation of agents that maintain context over time and reduce repetitive lawyer input.

Scaling Legal Intelligence Infrastructure

The new capital will accelerate Harvey's efforts to help law firms, in-house legal teams, and professional services firms build and own their intelligence at scale. Harvey is moving from a provider of AI tasks toward an infrastructure layer that supports high-value legal work. This ambition reflects a broader shift in professional services toward proprietary AI capabilities.

Acquisition of Guardrails AI

In the same announcement, Harvey revealed the acquisition of Guardrails AI, a San Francisco startup focused on safety and reliability for AI agents. The startup builds open-source tools that identify when agents deviate from expected behavior and help manage risk in real time. Its open-source framework records more than 250,000 downloads per month, according to the company.

Integration and Investor Support

This is the fourth acquisition Harvey has completed in 2026, although the financial terms of the Guardrails AI transaction were not disclosed. Guardrails co-founders Shreya Rajpal and Zayd Simjee and their team will join Harvey's product and engineering groups immediately. Guardrails AI had backing from Zetta Venture Partners, Bloomberg Beta, Pear VC, Factory, and Microsoft.

Leadership Perspective

Harvey co-founders Winston Weinberg and Gabe Pereyra said the opportunity for companies to accelerate competitive advantage with AI has never been higher. They described Harvey as a global partner that legal teams can rely on during the next wave of AI transformation. The co-founders also said the company plans to hire and develop the best team in the space to support clients.

With a $15.5 billion valuation and a fresh $550 million in capital, Harvey is scaling both its technology and its competitive position in legal artificial intelligence. The simultaneous acquisition of Guardrails AI shows a clear focus on security and reliability as AI agents become more embedded in professional workflows. The company's next phase will likely determine whether it can translate rapid adoption into durable infrastructure leadership.
