Genlight Medical Secures Series C and D Funding Rounds

Funds to advance Epilcure registration, Vivastep clinical translation, and overseas expansion

Hangzhou-based Genlight Medical has announced the completion of consecutive C and D financing rounds totaling several hundred million yuan. The C round was led by Qiming Venture Partners, while the D round was backed by Saizhi Bole, Kuanqiao Hengsong, Ningbo state capital and other investors. The proceeds will support registration and commercialization of its implantable neurostimulation system for drug resistant focal epilepsy and clinical translation of its spinal interface platform.


Funding and Strategic Objectives

The financing is expected to strengthen Genlight Medical's commercial and international expansion plans. The company will prioritize the registration and market entry of its Epilcure system while advancing the Vivastep spinal interface and related data and algorithm platforms. It will also pursue overseas regulatory approvals through the United States FDA and European CE pathways and build clinical collaboration networks from its Hangzhou and Singapore offices.

Portfolio Progress in Precision Neurosurgery

Genlight Medical has already commercialized supporting technologies that form the clinical foundation for its neurointerfaces. Its LaserRO magnetic resonance monitored laser ablation system and S-Deep intracranial depth electrodes have both obtained Class III medical device registration certificates in China. These products enable precise lesion treatment and intracranial signal localization, creating synergy between neurosignal acquisition, precision targeting, and closed loop neuromodulation.

Clinical Momentum in Epilepsy and Spinal Injury

The Epilcure implantable brain computer interface treats drug resistant focal epilepsy by monitoring intracranial activity and delivering responsive stimulation. It entered China's innovative device review in 2022, completed 110 patients in a confirmatory trial in 2025, and has surpassed 120 clinical implants. The Vivastep spinal interface achieved the first domestic closed loop implant with walking recovery within two months, then an overseas paraplegic implant, and has nearly 20 clinical cases.

Platform and Regulatory Foundation

The company operates a hardware, multimodal data, and AI model system that supports intelligent neurointerfaces across different clinical scenarios. Genlight Medical holds four Class III medical device registration certificates in China, three of which are innovative device approvals, and works with more than 50 top tier hospitals. Its intellectual property portfolio includes over 400 applications and more than 190 authorized patents, supported by provincial engineering and key laboratory platforms.

Executive and Investor Perspectives

Founder and CEO Cao Peng said the next phase of competition in brain computer interfaces will focus on product registration, long term clinical validation, and industrialization rather than isolated technical advances. Qiming Venture Partners partner Zhang Ao added that the company has built a full stack platform combining hardware, data, and AI, backed by solid clinical evidence. Both leaders emphasized the importance of moving from proving technical feasibility to delivering measurable clinical and commercial value.

Sector Momentum and Policy Tailwinds

China's brain computer interface industry is receiving stronger policy and regulatory support as standards and reimbursement pathways take shape. National initiatives aim to build a full industry standard system, while Zhejiang province has introduced measures to streamline medical consumable listing and encourage innovation. Analysts note that standard development can accelerate product validation and clinical adoption, benefiting companies with integrated hardware, data, and algorithm capabilities.


With operations in Hangzhou and Singapore, Genlight Medical is positioning itself to translate its neurotechnology pipeline into approved therapies for epilepsy and spinal cord injury while pursuing international market access. The new financing supports ongoing commercialization of core products, regulatory filings, and clinical partnerships in global markets. As national policies and industry standards mature, the company's integrated approach may help extend brain computer interface applications beyond medical treatment into broader brain health management.
