Estrigenix Therapeutics, a Milwaukee-based biotechnology firm, has successfully completed the first closing of a $2 million Series Seed financing round. The investment was led by Talents Fund I and will be instrumental in advancing the company's innovative platform. The capital is designated to accelerate the development of selective estrogen receptor-beta (ERβ) therapeutics for women’s health and neurodegenerative diseases.


Strategic Funding for Preclinical Advancement

The new capital will directly support the company's lead optimization and the completion of a translational preclinical package. This crucial work is designed to prepare Estrigenix's lead programs for investigational new drug (IND) enabling studies. These steps are essential for moving the company's promising candidates from the laboratory toward eventual clinical trials in humans.

This financing represents the company's first institutional equity raise, marking a significant transition from previous non-dilutive support and angel investments. The funding arrives just weeks after Estrigenix secured an exclusive worldwide license for its compound portfolio. This combination of financial and intellectual property milestones positions the company for its next phase of growth.

A Novel Approach to Estrogen Receptor Biology

Estrigenix is pioneering a novel approach centered on non-steroidal small molecules that selectively activate the ERβ protein. This method is designed to influence ERβ biology without using a steroid hormone, a key differentiator from traditional treatments. By specifically targeting ERβ, the platform avoids the ERα receptor subtype associated with proliferative effects in hormone therapy.

The company's strategy is based on the broad expression of ERβ in brain regions that regulate memory and emotion. Estrigenix recently finalized an exclusive intellectual property license with three university research foundations. Additionally, the company appointed Victoria Zellmer as its new Chief Executive Officer to guide its strategic development.

Daniel Sem, Managing General Partner of Talents Fund, expressed strong confidence in the company's potential. "Selective estrogen receptor-beta biology represents one of the most compelling opportunities in women’s health today," he commented. Sem added that with recent milestones, Estrigenix is exceptionally well positioned for its next stage of development.

Academic Roots and Future Outlook

The company's technology is rooted in academic research that began in 2015 across three Milwaukee-area institutions. The foundational work was conducted at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, Marquette University, and Concordia University Wisconsin. This collaborative effort combined expertise in neurobiology, chemical synthesis, and drug development to create the ERβ platform.

Looking ahead, Estrigenix will use the seed funding to advance its programs toward the critical IND-enabling stage. This will position its lead candidate, EGX358, as the first to approach human trials. The company has also received interest from multiple pharmaceutical firms, signaling potential for future strategic partnerships.
