Pan-African e-invoicing firm DigiTax has announced the appointment of Olumide Akinsola as its new Country Director for Nigeria. The leadership change comes shortly after the company secured accreditation from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) as an Access Point Provider (APP) under Nigeria’s new Merchant Buyer Solution (MBS) e-invoicing platform. With the move, DigiTax is set to play a pivotal role in the country’s shift toward full tax digitization.

Nigeria’s Digital Tax Transition

Nigeria is entering a new phase in modernizing its tax administration. Starting November 1, 2025, all companies with annual revenues above $3.26 million will be required to comply with FIRS’ real-time e-invoicing mandate or face penalties of $650 per day. By January 2026, the requirement will extend to businesses of all sizes, representing a significant shift for the nation’s tax ecosystem.

DigiTax’s Growing Presence

DigiTax has established itself across Africa as a trusted provider of digital invoicing solutions. The company currently supports more than 800 businesses and processes over $10 billion worth of invoices and credit notes annually. Its platform offers real-time invoice validation, a sandbox environment for integration testing, and end-to-end encryption to ensure data security and compliance with tax authorities.

CEO’s Statement

In a statement on the announcement, Caine Wanjau, CEO of DigiTax, highlighted the strategic importance of Nigeria. “Nigeria is a key market for DigiTax, and this accreditation by FIRS is a strong validation of our pan-African expertise. We look forward to working with businesses of all sizes to support them on this journey,” he said.

Role of the New Country Director

As Nigeria Country Director, Olumide Akinsola will oversee the company’s market entry and local operations. His role will focus on supporting enterprises through the transition to mandatory e-invoicing, ensuring they have access to compliant and secure digital solutions. His appointment comes at a critical time, with businesses preparing to meet FIRS requirements ahead of the November 2025 and January 2026 deadlines.

Broader Market Strategy

Nigeria is DigiTax’s third African market, following its expansions in Kenya and Zambia. The company views the country’s large taxpayer base and upcoming digital reforms as significant opportunities to grow its footprint. By combining FIRS accreditation with local leadership, DigiTax is positioning itself as a partner for both large corporations and SMEs navigating the e-invoicing transition.

Regulatory Context

The FIRS has certified 16 technology companies as Access Point Providers to facilitate the rollout of its new e-invoicing framework. This list includes DigiTax’s parent company, Namiri Technology Nigeria Limited, as well as local and regional players such as Interswitch, Pasca, Etranzact, Telepac, and Remita. The accreditation of multiple providers is expected to ensure competition, innovation, and faster adoption of digital invoicing across Nigeria’s economy.

The appointment of Olumide Akinsola and the accreditation of DigiTax by FIRS highlight a significant step in Nigeria’s journey toward tax digitization. With a proven track record across Africa and strong local leadership in place, DigiTax is prepared to help businesses of all sizes transition to real-time e-invoicing. As the November deadline approaches, the company is positioned as a key partner in advancing compliance, transparency, and efficiency within Nigeria’s growing digital economy.
