Bitso launched a new section in its app for investing in stocks tied to Plan Mexico. Users can start with 20 pesos in companies that have investment commitments in Mexico. The crypto platform and financial services firm announced the move with Mexico's Economy Ministry.

What investors see

The category shows company profiles, stock analysis, and market trends. It lists firms that participate in Plan Mexico. Users can choose companies and invest through an investment adviser.

Bitso's user base

Bitso reports more than 10 million customers. It has offered stock investing inside its app for about a year. Chief executive Daniel Vogel said the platform recorded more investors in 2017 than all brokerages in Mexico combined.

A lower entry point

A few years ago, investing in a company as a Mexican could require an account with about 100,000 pesos. Bitso now lets users start with far less through its app. Marcelo Ebrard, the economy secretary, said more than 90% of people in Mexico cannot invest in the stock market.

The Plan Mexico category is available in the Bitso app starting Wednesday. Additional companies will be added as they announce partnerships with the federal government. The offering aims to help small investors participate in the country's economic growth.
