Pixxel, a planetary infrastructure company with $195 million in total funding, launched Pixxel Federal on October 29, 2026. The new U.S. subsidiary will focus on federal missions. It will serve civilian, defense, and intelligence agencies.

Leadership and board

Allyson Jenkins, former vice president of public sector at Pixxel, will serve as CEO. The subsidiary added three board members with defense and intelligence backgrounds. They are Lieutenant General Ray Palumbo, Patrick M. Antkowiak, and Frank X. Avila.

Existing federal work

Pixxel already works with NASA through its Commercial SmallSat Data Acquisition Program. It also holds a Strategic Commercial Enhancements contract with the National Reconnaissance Office. These agreements support testing and integration of commercial hyperspectral data for government use.

What hyperspectral data enables

Pixxel's hyperspectral satellites identify materials by their unique spectral signatures. The technology can reveal camouflage, terrain features, and activity of interest for defense missions. It also supports critical mineral detection, environmental monitoring, and agriculture.

Pixxel Federal plans to open an office in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. It will pursue additional opportunities across federal agencies. Pixxel recently raised a $100 million Series C round co-led by Temasek and Seraphim.
