Beyond Capital Ventures has reached the first close of its Debt Opportunities Fund II. The vehicle provides senior secured credit to early growth-stage companies in Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. Loans will range from US$500,000 to US$2.5 million.
Predecessor performance
Debt Opportunities Fund I was a 2024-vintage fund. It made 15 loans across seven companies. It recorded a 100% repayment rate, zero non-performing or underperforming loans, and 0.45x DPI for investors.
Portfolio impact
According to BCV, every dollar deployed through DOF I generated US$9.8 in portfolio company revenue. DOF I portfolio companies have served 8.9 million customers. Of those customers, 67% are low-income, 74% rural, and 63% female.
Where the fund lends
DOF II will deploy senior and secured working capital loans, on-lending capital, and trade finance. It targets healthcare, financial services, and climate businesses. Around 80% of capital is expected to go to companies already held in BCV's venture funds.
The fund will accept subscriptions through a final close in 2027. It has a three-year limited-term fund life. Capital is expected to be returned and recycled over that period.
