Avla, a Chilean business insurance group, plans to raise US$150 million for its reinsurance unit over the next 12 to 18 months. The unit will become a commercial reinsurance business serving other insurers in Latin America. Executive Felippe Astrachan will lead the expansion from Brazil.
Where the capital comes from
Current shareholders Creation Investments, DEG Investitions, and Altra Investments will provide the funding. Cash generated by Avla will also support the plan. The group does not seek new investors.
Brazil leads operations
Brazil became Avla's largest market in early 2025. The country now represents about 40% of the group's business. Its operation expects approximately R$750 million in revenue in 2026.
What AVLA RE offers
AVLA RE already handles risks from the group and is profitable. It will now receive separate capital and structure. The business will sell reinsurance coverage to other insurers, starting in Latin America.
Andre Luiz Bertolino will replace Astrachan as CEO in Brazil. He plans to focus on small and medium-sized businesses. Acquisitions remain on the radar, though the company will stay cautious.
