Aramco Ventures has invested in ROTOBOOST, a Finnish energy technology company. The company develops methane pyrolysis systems that make low-carbon hydrogen and solid carbon materials. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Planned use of funds
The capital will support manufacturing of commercial methane pyrolysis systems. ROTOBOOST will expand production capacity for advanced carbon products. It also plans to strengthen its presence in the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and North America.
Company background
ROTOBOOST was founded in Finland in 2022. It has partnerships with PETRONAS, Hankook Tire, and Baowu. The company has also received marine class approvals from ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, and RINA.
How the technology works
The process uses a molten catalyst to split methane and other hydrocarbons. It produces hydrogen and solid carbon materials such as crumpled graphene nanoplatelets. These carbon products are used in batteries, coatings, plastics, steel, and tires.
The company plans to deploy its systems in oil and gas, power, steel, and marine sectors. It also aims to explore commercial opportunities with Aramco Ventures. ROTOBOOST will continue R&D on reactor efficiency and feedstock flexibility.
