Helium Health has received Google.org funding to expand AI tools for maternal healthcare in Nigeria. The healthtech company operates digital health solutions for providers, patients, and governments across Africa. It was selected as one of 15 global recipients in the US$30 million Google.org Impact Challenge: AI for Government Innovation.
Program rollout
The rollout will cover Lagos, Delta, Kano, and Oyo States. Lagos State will serve as the primary launchpad for the initiative. Executives from Google and Helium Health presented the implementation roadmap in Lagos with the state governor.
Helium Health's reach
Helium Health has spent a decade building technology and partnerships for African healthcare. Helium Health says its maternal health initiatives have reached over 3.5 million women so far. It also runs public health programs through its nonprofit arm, HeliumCARES.
What HeliumMum does
HeliumMum will use AI to help pregnant women spot risks early and find appropriate care. It connects them to providers that use electronic medical records and AI clinical decision support. The platform also gives governments data to strengthen maternal health services.
Helium Health plans to reach an additional 1.9 million women over three years. It also aims to contribute to a 30% reduction in maternal mortality. The selected organizations will receive support from Google engineers and AI product experts through a dedicated accelerator.
