The WFF Startup Innovation Awards (SIA), powered by MassChallenge Switzerland, serves as a global platform designed to highlight and support young entrepreneurs who are leveraging technology to revolutionize agrifood systems, contribute to ending global hunger, and help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through a strategic partnership with MassChallenge Switzerland, selected startups are granted exclusive entry into the MassChallenge Switzerland Accelerator in Lausanne. This provides them with access to world-class mentorship, extensive networks, and significant growth opportunities.

2026 Award Categories
• Digital Innovation in Food Processing: For startups creating cutting-edge solutions to improve the sustainability, efficiency, and resilience of food processing systems, including data-driven insights, smart equipment, and connected platforms.
• Fighting Malnutrition and Enhancing Food Security: For startups developing scalable, inclusive solutions that tackle malnutrition and food insecurity by enhancing nutrition education, increasing access to nutritious food, and strengthening local agrifood systems.
• Enhancing Climate Resilience and Water Security: For startups with innovative solutions addressing climate change and water scarcity through sustainable water management, strengthened climate resilience, and support for the long-term sustainability of agrifood systems.
• Empowering Women in Agrifood Systems: For startups developing inclusive innovations that bolster women’s participation and leadership in agrifood systems by improving access to finance, markets, skills, and entrepreneurship training.
Special Awards 2026
• Startup of Year Award 2026: This award recognizes the startup with exceptional innovation, scalability, and potential to transform global agrifood systems. The winner receives a USD 10,000 cash prize from the Seeding The Future Foundation.
• Excellence in Applied AI: Presented by Extreme Tech Challenge (XTC), this award acknowledges the innovative use of applied intelligence. The winner gains inclusion in XTC’s global ecosystem, publicity through XTC media channels, and an invitation to XTC’s annual AI conference in California in November 2026.
Benefits for Participants
• Financial Awards: Winners receive at least USD 7,500 per category, with runners-up awarded USD 2,500. The overall winner receives an additional USD 10,000.
• Accelerator Access: Selected startups are invited to the MassChallenge Switzerland Accelerator Programme, which includes world-class mentoring, a comprehensive curriculum, market guidance, and access to a global network of corporate partners.
• Travel and Visibility: Travel support is provided for two finalist teams per category to attend the WFF flagship event in Rome, Italy. Participants also receive extensive visibility and promotional opportunities through WFF Youth Initiative platforms.
Timeline and Key Dates for 2026
• PHASE 1 - Application and Selection: Application deadline is 1 April; Online pitches for selected startups occur from 4 - 13 May; Participating startups are selected on 19 May.
• PHASE 2 - Acceleration: The MassChallenge Acceleration Bootcamp in Lausanne, Switzerland, runs from 29 June - 10 July; Halftime and Collaboration events take place from 31 August - 4 September in Lausanne.
• PHASE 3 - Demo Day and Judging: An online Demo-day for selecting finalists is held on 29 September; Pre-final judging for the MassChallenge Switzerland Award is from 5 - 8 October.
• PHASE 4 - Final Pitch and Awards: The Finals pitch and Award Ceremony take place during the WFF flagship event in Rome, Italy, from 12 - 16 October; The MassChallenge Switzerland Award Ceremony is on 29 October in Lausanne.
Eligibility Criteria
• Leadership: Startups must be youth-led, with at least one founder or C-level executive aged 18-35 at the time of application. Representatives pitching and participating in events must be 35 or younger.
• Financial Status: Startups should have raised less than USD 2 million in capital and generated less than USD 2 million in sales.
• Solution Validation: Applicants must show validated evidence of their solution, such as pilots, early adoption, partnerships, or measurable results.
• Scalability: Startups must demonstrate the scalability of their solution and its potential for growth.
• Impact: Solutions should show a clear, measurable contribution to more efficient and sustainable agrifood systems.
Participation in the WFF Startup Innovation Awards has historically provided significant benefits to alumni.
