The RED Labs Summer Accelerator is a 12-week program from the University of Houston designed to support students, faculty, and recent alumni in accelerating their business ideas. The program provides a structured environment where participants engage in a focused curriculum, receive mentorship from local business owners, and work intensively on their ventures, culminating in a final demo day.


Program Structure and Benefits

• A twelve-week curriculum focused on entrepreneurship, featuring speakers from the University of Houston and the Houston business community.

Applicant Eligibility and Requirements

• Business Stage: Applicants can have an idea for a tech startup or a currently operating business, including technology-based (software/hardware) and small businesses (products/services).
• Customer Validation: Teams or individuals should have initiated customer discovery and validated their market, or be generating revenue.
• Founder Skills: The program seeks teams or individuals with the necessary skills to build their business independently or the resources to hire for development.
• Personal Attributes: Ideal founders demonstrate flexibility, coachability, and a willingness to learn from customer and mentor feedback.
• Commitment: A strong commitment to pursuing the business and dedicating significant time and effort throughout the summer is required. Founders are expected to attend in-person sessions and work on their businesses outside of scheduled programming.
• University Affiliation: At least one team member must be a current University of Houston student, a current faculty member, or a recent alumnus who graduated within the last year.

Key Dates and Application Timeline (Class 14 - 2026)

• Applications Open: January 2026.
• Application Deadline: Friday, April 3rd, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.
• Interviews: Late March to early April 2026 for qualified applicants.
• Cohort Selection: Early April 2026.
• Program Start: Late May 2026.
• Program End & Demo Day: Mid-August 2026.

Time Commitment and Example Schedule

• Weekly Scheduled Hours: Approximately 6-7 hours of curriculum, sessions, and mentorship are scheduled each week, with a significant expectation for work outside these hours.
• In-Person Commitment: It is recommended that at least one team member can commit to 10-15 hours per week in person, with priority given to those who can participate full-time.
• Example 2026 Schedule: The schedule varies annually but typically includes an intensive bootcamp, regular sessions, and pitch practice.
• Bootcamp: May 17 - May 26 (9 a.m. - 4 p.m.).
• Additional Tuesday Sessions: May 30, June 6, June 13, June 20, and July 11 (9 a.m. - 4 p.m.).
• Check-ins and Speaker Sessions: Wednesdays from May 31 to July 12 (12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.).
• Pitch Practice: July 17 - 21 (online) and July 24 - 28 (in-person), with morning or afternoon slots.
• Demo Day: August 2 (11 a.m. - 10 p.m.).

Additional Program Information

• Program Consolidation: The RED Launch program for small businesses is now integrated into the main RED Labs accelerator.
• Cohort Size: The program supports up to 10 teams each summer.
• Team Composition: Teams generally consist of 2 to 5 members. Solo founders are eligible to apply but should be prepared for a greater time commitment.
• Program Cost: The accelerator is free to attend. An optional three-credit-hour course (ENTR 4394/7394) is available, for which standard tuition fees apply if enrolled.


Applications for Class 14 are scheduled to close on Friday, April 3rd, 2026. Following a review process, qualified applicants will be invited to interview.
