Program Offerings
• Funding: Ventures can receive up to $24,000 in equity-free funding.
• Acceleration Support: A 5-month program featuring curated technical support, coaching, and masterclasses to address business gaps and strengthen skills.
• Investment Readiness & Demo Day: Includes structured investment and pitch preparation, culminating in a Demo Day for ecosystem exposure.
• Market Linkages & Visibility: Provides connections to investors and key stakeholders, access to community events, and collaboration opportunities with Farmer Service Centres (FSCs).
Applicant Profile
• Eligible Entities: The program is open to Startups, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and cooperatives.
• Solution Focus: Applicants should have commercially viable solutions that strengthen the food system and contribute to job creation and improvement, especially for young women.
• Encouraged Areas: While all food systems solutions are welcome, those addressing increased production, enhanced post-harvest processes, access to finance, and access to markets are particularly encouraged.
Eligibility Criteria
• Business Registration: Must have a valid registration/certificate of incorporation and at least 2 years of operation in Rwanda.
• Market Traction: Must provide proof of a revenue-generating business with proven market traction.
• Team Composition: A minimum of three full-time members dedicated to the venture, including the founding team.
• Leadership: At least 50% of the founding and/or senior management team must be from Rwanda or East Africa.
• Operational Presence: The entity must have existing key operations in Rwanda and be able to attend program activities in person.
• Community Commitment: Must be committed to supporting, providing mentorship, and sharing learnings with peers and Farmer Service Centers (FSCs).
• Youth and Women-Led Ventures: Businesses led by youth (CEO/founder under 35) and particularly young women (female CEO/founder under 35 with significant decision-making authority) are especially encouraged to apply.
Evaluation Criteria
• Innovation: The novelty and effectiveness of the solution.
• Impact: The potential to create and improve jobs, strengthen the food system, and support target communities.
• Financial Sustainability: The viability and long-term financial health of the business model.
• Scalability: The potential for growth and expansion of the solution.
• Team: The experience, dedication, and capability of the leadership and operational team.
Program Journey and Selection
• Application Review: Submitted applications are checked for eligibility and then scored against the evaluation criteria, leading to a shortlist for interviews.
• Pre-acceleration Phase: Up to 12 shortlisted ventures join this phase. It includes a 3-day bootcamp with expert coaching on storytelling, sales, and pitching. The phase concludes with a pitch session.
• Due Diligence: Following the pitch, up to 8 ventures advance to a due diligence phase. This involves site visits and a review of the venture's solution, financials, traction, and corporate documents. Ventures submit investment proposals and budgets.
• Acceleration Phase: Up to 6 ventures are selected for the 5-month acceleration journey. This phase includes business diagnostics, development of a scaling plan, tailored technical assistance, one-on-one coaching, thematic masterclasses, and networking opportunities.
• Demo Day: The program culminates in a Demo Day event to provide ventures with a platform for visibility and exposure to potential investors and partners.
Key Information and Commitments
• Program Cost: Participation in the IGNITE Challenge 4.0 is free for all selected ventures.
• Program Language: All program activities, including the application and acceleration phases, will be conducted in English.
• Funding Details: The funding provided is an equity-free grant, which is unlocked once a venture is selected for the acceleration phase.
• Time Commitment: Selected ventures are expected to actively participate from May to October 2026. At least one senior decision-maker must be consistently involved in all core activities, including masterclasses, coaching sessions, and key events.
