Canadian quantum technology firm Zero Point Cryogenics has announced a significant expansion into the United States with a new hub in Chicago. Located at the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park, this facility will serve as the company's first international base for innovation and service. The move signals a strategic effort to support the rapidly growing North American quantum ecosystem by providing essential infrastructure and support.

The new Chicago hub is designed to provide comprehensive installation, maintenance, and technical support for Zero Point Cryogenics' US customers. This local presence will enable the company to foster deeper collaborations with government agencies, defense contractors, and leading research institutions. The expansion was officially announced at the Global Quantum Forum, with Illinois Governor JB Pritzker in attendance to welcome the company. Development of the hub is supported by the state's Manufacturing Illinois Chips for Real Opportunity (MIRCO) Act, which offers strategic tax incentives. Under the agreement, the company will create 21 new jobs by 2030 and make a substantial capital investment reported to be in the millions.

Zero Point Cryogenics is one of only six companies in the world that designs and manufactures these highly specialized dilution refrigerators. This cryogenic infrastructure is indispensable for quantum computing, as quantum bits, or qubits, must operate at temperatures near absolute zero to maintain stability and accuracy. The increasing global demand for these systems reflects the significant investments being made in quantum research and development worldwide.
Governor Pritzker stated that the investment reinforces Illinois’ position as a global capital for quantum technology by strengthening its local supply chain. Dr. Harley Johnson, CEO of the IQMP, added that ZPC's unique technology enhances the park's ability to support other tenants and fosters a collaborative environment. Their presence is seen as a natural fit that solidifies the region's status as a premier destination for the quantum industry.

This Chicago facility represents the first phase of a broader international expansion strategy for the Alberta-based company. Zero Point Cryogenics has outlined plans for additional service hubs across the United States, as well as in key markets throughout Europe and Asia. Despite its global ambitions, CEO Chris Cassin affirmed that the company will remain inherently Canadian, with its headquarters and advanced manufacturing anchored in Alberta.
