Maritime AI company Windward has acquired Azimut.ai. Azimut.ai is a maritime visual intelligence firm. The deal adds an optical sensing layer to Windward's multi-source platform.

A new layer of visibility

The new capability uses cameras placed at key ports and maritime chokepoints. It identifies and fingerprints vessels in real time. This provides visibility even when ships go dark to avoid detection.

How the system works

Windward combines the visual identifications with its existing data. This includes details on vessel ownership, sanctions, and cargo. The system is designed for privacy and does not provide raw images to customers.

Windward's platform

Windward offers a 360-degree view of global maritime activity. Its clients include defense agencies, law enforcement, and commercial leaders. The company's platform fuses data from AIS, satellite imagery, and other signals.

This acquisition marks Windward's first step into ground and ship-based sensors. The company now owns these assets outright. Windward is inviting stakeholders to become site partners to expand the sensor network.
