Swiss cleantech startup Apolarion has received €164,000 (CHF 150,000) from Venture Kick. The EPFL spin-off is developing a chemical-free seed treatment system. Founded by Jesus Poley and Luke Simons, it aims to replace chemical coatings with a plasma-based approach.
Program support
Apolarion took part in the Venture Kick program. The program introduced the founders to Switzerland's startup network and gave them access to training, coaching, and advisors. The startup said this support helped it secure early successes.
Market focus
Apolarion is initially targeting the Swiss and EU seed treatment market. That segment is valued at approximately USD 250 million within a global market estimated at USD 13 billion. The company plans to serve more than 450 companies in the EU.
How the technology works
The modular device uses cold atmospheric plasma generated from air and electricity. It creates reactive particles that neutralize pathogens while preserving seed germination. The system is designed for low energy consumption and flexible application.
The new capital will support Apolarion's first series of field trials and initial customer deployments. It will cover operational spaces, equipment, and personnel needed for those pilot programs. The company expects this work to prepare it for market entry and future growth.
