Technopark Morocco, managed by MITC, took the international stage at the 42nd World Conference on Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP) in Beijing on September 19. The presentation highlighted the institution’s transformation from a national incubator to a recognized innovation hub with global partnerships. It underscored Morocco’s growing role in the international knowledge economy.

From Local Incubator to National Hub

In her address, Technopark CEO Lamiae Benmakhlouf shared the journey of the organization’s expansion over the past two decades. What began as a localized incubator has evolved into a national platform supporting more than 3,000 startups across multiple sectors. This transformation has been powered by four core pillars: regional expansion, acceleration programs, international attractiveness, and ecosystem synergy.

Tangible Impact on the Economy

The outcomes of Technopark’s work were presented with clear metrics that reflect its national importance. More than 15,000 jobs have been created through its network of six regional sites, extending economic opportunities across Morocco. Additionally, 36 percent of its startups are already exporting worldwide, demonstrating its ability to nurture globally competitive enterprises.

Strategic Collaboration with Saudi Arabia

One of the key announcements at the conference was Technopark’s new partnership with Dhahran Techno Valley Holding Company (DTVC) in Saudi Arabia. This collaboration reinforces Morocco’s ambition to deepen ties within the MENA region while building bridges to international innovation ecosystems. Both organizations emphasized their commitment to knowledge exchange and joint projects that will accelerate technological development.

Focus on Inclusion and Sustainability

Benmakhlouf highlighted that beyond numbers, Technopark’s mission prioritizes inclusive growth. Programs aimed at youth and women entrepreneurs are being scaled to ensure a more balanced participation in Morocco’s innovation economy. Furthermore, the hub is investing in community-oriented initiatives that create long-term value while aligning with sustainability goals.

Plans for Future Expansion

Looking ahead, Technopark is preparing to launch three new innovation parks across Morocco. These sites will extend its regional presence, creating stronger connections between local entrepreneurs and global markets. By doing so, it aims to cement its position as a national platform with international relevance.

Global Context at IASP

Technopark’s intervention was part of a wider plenary session moderated by Jill Tang, which gathered leaders from science parks around the world. Speakers from China, Spain, and Thailand shared visions on how innovation spaces can address future challenges such as technological disruption, sustainability, and talent development. Together, the session emphasized that innovation ecosystems must evolve into transnational hubs built on collaboration, inclusion, and policy alignment.

Technopark Morocco’s role at IASP reflects the country’s growing ambition to integrate into global innovation networks while reinforcing regional leadership. With thousands of startups supported, strong international collaborations, and expansion plans underway, it is positioning itself as a vital engine for Morocco’s knowledge economy. As the innovation landscape becomes increasingly interconnected, Technopark’s efforts underline the importance of building ecosystems that are both locally grounded and globally engaged.
