Sortrace, a Stockholm-based company developing AI-powered waste analysis technology, has raised approximately US$800,000 in new funding. Almi Invest led the round. Antler, Gorilla Capital, and several angel investors also participated.

Investor backing

Almi Invest will act as an active owner. It brings capital, networks, and experience. The round is intended to speed up commercial expansion and platform development.

Company background

Sortrace was founded by Rahel Surshi and Tomas Kjellstrand. Surshi serves as CEO. The company already works with several municipalities and recycling sector organizations.

How the platform works

Cameras on waste collection vehicles record household waste as bins are emptied. AI identifies the contents and converts images into structured data. Municipalities can detect incorrect sorting and monitor collection patterns, while images are stored within the EU.

Sortrace plans to meet growing demand from municipalities. It will continue developing the product. The company also aims to apply its technology beyond collection vehicles to other stages of waste management.
