BionicM raised ¥710 million (US$4.5 million) in the first close of its Series B round. B Dash Ventures and Mitsubishi UFJ Capital led the investment. The Japanese startup develops powered prosthetic legs for people with lower-limb amputations.
Funding use
The company will put the fresh capital toward production, marketing, and sales. The work supports its next-generation powered prosthetic knee, ASISTA. BionicM plans to launch that product in the United States in 2027.
Company snapshot
BionicM was founded in December 2018 from research at the University of Tokyo. Its existing product, Bio Leg, has US FDA Class II registration and insurance reimbursement approval. The company also established a US sales operation in 2024.
How ASISTA works
ASISTA uses motor-based technology to assist knee bending and straightening. The device supports walking, stairs, slopes, and sitting down. That differs from conventional microprocessor knees that mostly rely on passive control.
BionicM sees a growing US market for powered prosthetics. A new 2025 billing code covers electromechanical prosthetic knees. The company aims to use that shift to support a wider launch.
