Dutch startup SolarDew has secured €800,000 in funding to combat global water scarcity. The investment, from Connect the Drops and Oost NL, will scale production of its solar-powered water purification systems. This capital accelerates the company's mission to provide one million people with clean drinking water by 2035.

A Response to Global Water Stress

The urgency for new water solutions is driven by a growing global crisis, as 80 percent of rural populations lack safe drinking water. This challenge is intensified by increasing salinity and pollution in existing water sources. SolarDew's technology directly addresses the need for sustainable purification in these vulnerable and remote environments.

Conventional methods like bottled water are unsustainable, while large-scale desalination plants are too complex for smaller communities. These approaches often fail to provide a viable long-term answer for schools, clinics, and local businesses in arid regions. SolarDew offers a decentralized and practical alternative designed specifically for this underserved market.

A Breakthrough in Solar Purification

SolarDew has developed a unique purification system using evaporation and condensation through a specialized membrane. The technology efficiently converts polluted water or seawater into high-quality drinking water. It operates solely on solar thermal energy and gravity, eliminating any need for electricity, chemicals, or high-pressure pumps.

This innovative design results in a simple and low-maintenance solution perfect for off-grid locations. A standard station of 32 units can generate around 100 litres of clean water daily, depending on sunlight. The system's simplicity ensures it can be managed by local communities without requiring specialized technical skills.

From Pilot to Production

After successful pilot projects validated the technology, SolarDew began industrial production and manufactured an initial 150 units. The company has also established a robust supply chain with European partners, creating a strong foundation for expansion. This progress demonstrates the company's readiness to scale its operations significantly.

Protecting its innovation, SolarDew secured a Dutch patent, with broader international patents expected soon. The company has already launched its first projects in Chile and Greece, proving the solution's real-world viability. These initial deployments showcase the technology's practical application in diverse environmental and commercial settings.

Fueling Future Growth and Impact

The new €800,000 in capital will be instrumental in fueling SolarDew's next growth phase. These funds are allocated to scale up industrial production and deploy additional commercial projects by 2026. This investment directly supports the company's strategy to expand its global footprint and impact.

"Our goal now is to continue to scale and create lasting impact," stated CEO Alexander van der Kleij. Investor confidence is high, with Jan Otto Ooms of Connect the Drops calling it a "proven, scalable solution." This strong backing from partners validates the company's mission and its potential for significant global change.

This strategic investment is a pivotal moment for SolarDew, enabling its transition from a promising technology to a commercial force for good. With its simple and sustainable solution, the startup is positioned to address critical water security challenges in underserved regions. The funding accelerates its journey toward improving living conditions and fostering economic growth through clean water access.
