Australian investment platform Pearler has closed a A$16 million Series A funding round led by Portage, the same firm that led its $7.8 million seed investment four years ago. The company now serves more than 110,000 active customers and holds over $3.5 billion in assets across shares, superannuation, and first home deposit accounts. The fresh capital will support product expansion and a national marketing push as the fintech targets long-term wealth building for younger Australians.
Investor Backing and Round Composition
Portage led the Series A and was joined by four other investors. Altered Capital, whose founding partners backed UK challenger bank Starling from its 2015 seed round, participated alongside private investment company No Brand. Chris Cuffe's new Partners Horizon Fund and Charlie Gearside, co-founder of Eucalyptus, also joined the raise, while TEN13 followed on from the 2022 seed round.
Product Roadmap and Capital Deployment
Co-founder and CEO Nick Nicolaides said Pearler runs lean on technology and leaner on budget. He said the company has total control of its cash flow after years of product and community building. The capital will be deployed toward new index investing options, superannuation updates, and investing services for homeowners to help users reach financial independence faster.
Executive Outlook
Nicolaides noted that the raise is not just about capital. It is a clear signal that Portage and other investors have confidence after watching the company perform through multiple market cycles. He added that the team is excited to have firepower that matches its creativity and ambition.
Customer Growth and Investment Preferences
Pearler has positioned itself around a "get rich slow" message aimed at everyday zillennials. The platform now reports that 86 per cent of its $3.5 billion in holdings is in exchange traded funds. Its offering spans ASX and US share investing, micro-investing, savings rewards, superannuation, and a first home deposit account.
Creative and Brand Expansion
Ahead of its national marketing campaign, Pearler has appointed Jackson Nunn as Creative Director. Nunn previously worked at Clemenger and will lead the company's first in-house creative team. Charlie Gearside, who joins the cap table after two years as an adviser, said Pearler is building one of Australia's great consumer brands with a talented team.
Broader Market Context
The round adds to a series of Australian Series A closures in recent months. It follows Everlab's $65 million round in June, Syenta's $36 million round in April, and Ideally's $13.4 million round in April, which also counted Altered Capital as a backer. These rounds remain smaller than top-tier fintech raises such as Airwallex's US$320 million round in June at a US$11 billion valuation.
Pearler's Series A demonstrates that disciplined fintech companies can still attract meaningful funding in a tight environment. The backing from Portage and new investors validates its steady growth and focus on long-term wealth creation. With new products and a national campaign ahead, Pearler is poised to extend its reach among younger Australians seeking financial independence.
