Sent, a company providing a unified API for business messaging, has announced an oversubscribed $12 million Series A funding round. The round was led by Companyon Ventures with participation from existing investors Bessemer Venture Partners and Urban Innovation Fund. Sent aims to modernize communication infrastructure by intelligently routing messages across SMS, WhatsApp, and RCS to prepare for a future dominated by AI-driven interactions.

Rebuilding Legacy Messaging

The company was founded by Daniel Vataj and Betim Drenica out of personal frustration with outdated messaging systems. Legacy platforms are often built around SMS, leading to unreliable delivery and forcing developers to manage separate integrations for each new channel. This fragmentation creates significant operational hurdles and a poor user experience, a problem the founders were determined to solve at the infrastructure level.

Sent addresses these challenges with a single API powered by an AI model that determines the optimal delivery channel for each message in real time. The platform automatically handles routing, compliance, and carrier complexities behind the scenes. This allows developers to integrate once and trust that every notification will reach its intended recipient on their preferred platform, be it SMS, WhatsApp, or RCS.

Strategic Evolution and Investor Backing

A key factor in the new funding is Sent's recent evolution from a software vendor to a licensed U.S. telecom carrier. This FCC designation gives the company direct network control, creating a significant competitive advantage and positioning it as core infrastructure. This strategic shift was a major driver for Companyon Ventures, which has led every funding round for Sent to date.

The continued backing from Bessemer Venture Partners and Urban Innovation Fund underscores strong investor confidence in Sent's vision. Partners from the firms highlighted the company's strong product-market fit and its potential to become the essential orchestration layer for the next generation of business communications. This support is crucial as AI agents are expected to dramatically increase messaging volumes in the coming years.

Proven Traction and Future Growth

Sent has already demonstrated significant market traction, with its platform capable of reaching over one billion unique phone numbers and serving more than 20,000 developers and product teams. Customers moving from legacy providers have reported messaging cost reductions of 70-80 percent. These metrics showcase the platform's tangible value and effectiveness in solving a widespread industry problem for businesses of all sizes.

The new capital will be allocated toward expanding Sent's direct carrier network and further enhancing its AI-native messaging infrastructure. The company also plans to grow its engineering, compliance, and enterprise go-to-market teams. These investments are designed to scale operations and solidify Sent's position as a leader in the evolving communications landscape as it moves further upmarket to serve larger enterprises.

With its successful $12 million Series A, Sent is strongly positioned to challenge the $100 billion A2P messaging market. By combining intelligent, multi-channel routing with its status as licensed telecom infrastructure, the company is building a foundational platform for the future of business communication. This strategic approach prepares Sent to become an indispensable tool in a world where AI agents increasingly manage customer interactions.
