Scottish drug delivery developer 1nhaler raised £2.2 million in Series A follow-on funding. Archangels led the round with support from Scottish Enterprise and BBB Investments. The company builds a cardboard-based, single-dose dry powder inhaler.

Funding plans

The investment will complete technical transfer to contract manufacturing. The company will produce clinical trial material and run a small clinical study. It also supports a manufacturing engineering study with Harro Höfliger and business development talks.

Company context

1nhaler is based in Edinburgh and was founded by Don Smith and Lisa McMyn. Its team includes former leaders from GSK, AstraZeneca, and Novartis. Archangels has backed the company since 2023.

The cardboard inhaler

The single-dose device is mostly cardboard and similar in size to a credit card. It opens into a three-dimensional inhaler for patient use. The platform targets respiratory conditions and could later deliver pain relief and vaccines.

1nhaler targets a regulatory filing in late 2027. The company will use data from the early-stage study in that filing. It aims to secure first regulatory approval for the device.
