Saudi digital payments company barq has closed a $329.5 million Series A funding round at a valuation of $1.85 billion, reinforcing its position as one of the fastest-growing fintech platforms in the region. The announcement was made during Money20/20 Middle East in Riyadh, held from 14 to 16 September 2026. Participants in the round included Noon Investments, Sohar International Bank, and M20 Fund.

Valuation and Investor Participation

The Series A round values barq at $1.85 billion, placing the Riyadh-based company firmly in unicorn territory less than three years after launch. Founded in 2023 by Ahmed Alenazi, barq operates under a license from the Saudi Central Bank, also known as SAMA. Its investors include UAE-based Noon Investments, Oman's Sohar International Bank, and M20 Fund, reflecting regional confidence in Saudi fintech.

Rapid User Growth and Transaction Activity

barq has surpassed 15 million users from more than 210 nationalities within two years of entering the market. The company has also processed more than SAR440 billion, equivalent to around $117.3 billion, through its platform since launch. These figures point to high adoption and rising transaction volumes across its digital financial services.

A Broader Digital Financial Platform

Originally focused on digital payments, barq has expanded into accounts, cards, local and international transfers, rewards, and e-commerce services. The platform is designed to let individuals manage daily financial activities from a single application. It also offers services such as shared payment tools and a marketplace, extending its reach beyond a traditional digital wallet.

Moving Toward Business Services

The new funding arrives as barq shifts more attention toward products designed for the business segment. The company provides business accounts that support daily money management, receiving and sending payments, multi-currency capabilities, and spending oversight. This strategic direction broadens its target market from individual consumers to companies seeking integrated digital financial services.

Cross-Border Expansion

barq has been strengthening its international payment capabilities through a series of partnerships and platform integrations. Earlier this year, it added Alipay+ to enable cross-border QR payments at supported merchants in more than 220 markets globally. The company previously collaborated with Western Union to facilitate international money transfers, adding further depth to its cross-border offering.

Capital for Scaling and Efficiency

The Series A capital will support operational efficiency, faster development of financial products and services, and investment in new financial and technology solutions. barq also plans to use the funding to expand into additional regional and international markets. The round is intended to help the company move from rapid early-stage expansion toward scaling a broader digital financial platform.

Saudi Fintech Momentum

The raise aligns with continued growth in Saudi Arabia's fintech sector, where digital payments have reached around 70 percent of retail transactions and more than 260 fintech companies are active. Regulatory support from the Saudi Central Bank and the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 continue to encourage digital financial innovation. barq's announcement at Money20/20 Middle East highlights the increasing maturity of the Kingdom's fintech ecosystem.

With this Series A round, barq enters a new phase defined by larger capital, a substantial user base, and wider product ambitions. Its ability to maintain fast growth while expanding business services and cross-border payments will be closely watched. The funding positions the company to compete more aggressively in a maturing Saudi fintech market and to explore opportunities beyond its home market.
