Mitsubishi Electric, MUFG Bank, and Climate Investment invested in convertible notes issued by GHGSat in October 2026. GHGSat is a Canadian company that monitors greenhouse gas emissions from space. The investment supports a satellite-based tip and cue service.

Partnership details

Mitsubishi Electric, MUFG Bank, Satellite Data Services, and GHGSat formed a partnership in November 2024. They are developing a service that combines wide-area data from GOSAT-GW with GHGSat's facility-level observations. Mitsubishi Electric is the prime contractor for the project, which was selected for a JOGMEC fiscal 2026 technology verification program.

Company context

GHGSat was founded in 2011 and is headquartered in Québec, Canada. It pioneered high-resolution greenhouse gas remote sensing from space. Its satellites can trace methane and carbon dioxide emissions to individual industrial facilities.

How monitoring works

The tip and cue method uses GOSAT-GW for wide-area scans that flag suspected emission areas. Those tips trigger observation requests to GHGSat's constellation. GHGSat then supplies emissions intelligence to companies, governments, regulators, and investors.

The parties plan to accelerate development of the tip and cue service. MUFG Bank's investment was made in green convertible notes under GHGSat's Green Finance Framework. Mitsubishi Electric also made an additional investment in Satellite Data Services in February 2026.
