Cat Wu, a former product leader for Claude Code at Anthropic, is joining OpenAI. She announced the move on X. She will lead product management for the company's Core Products team.
Departure timing
Wu left Anthropic last week. The exit came weeks before Anthropic's planned IPO. She said selling shares sooner was not a factor in her decision.
Career background
Wu joined Anthropic in summer 2024. She and Claude Code creator Boris Cherny briefly left for Cursor in 2025, then returned. She previously worked at Scale AI, Dagster, and venture firm Index Ventures.
Product focus
At Anthropic, she helped turn Claude Code from an internal prototype into a widely used commercial product. OpenAI's rival coding tool Codex has also expanded beyond technical work. Wu will work on enterprise products with Nick Turley and consumer products with Ashley Alexander.
She will report to Tibo Sottiaux, who heads the core products team. OpenAI confirmed the hire. Wu said she plans to build agents that keep users in control and save time.
