OpenAI has appointed former US Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll to a new role. He will serve as the Senior Counselor for National Security Modernization. Driscoll will advise on using advanced AI to strengthen national and cybersecurity.
Driscoll's responsibilities
Driscoll will work with OpenAI's leadership and external partners. He will focus on the responsible use of AI with US allies. He will also help OpenAI's internal teams understand the operational needs of security institutions.
A background in public service
Driscoll previously served as the 26th Secretary of the Army. He oversaw operations, modernization, and resources for the service. His experience spans military service, senior government leadership, and the private sector.
Building on security partnerships
The appointment builds on OpenAI's Daybreak cybersecurity program. US cybersecurity company Proofpoint recently joined the Daybreak partner program. The move also follows OpenAI's partnership with defense technology firm Anduril.
In his new position, Driscoll will advise public and private sector partners on modernizing policy. He will work to identify where operational needs and emerging AI capabilities can align. The company aims to support the buildout of AI based on democratic principles.
