Navi Medical Technologies, a medtech firm with operations in Melbourne and Boston, has successfully secured AUD $6.8 million in a recent capital raise. The funding, led by healthcare venture capital firm KP Rx, is earmarked for the United States commercialization of its Neonav® device. This innovative technology is designed to improve the safety and accuracy of catheter placement in critically ill newborns and children.

Addressing a Critical Need in Paediatric Care

The placement of central venous catheters is a highly challenging procedure in neonatal and paediatric intensive care units. Clinicians have long relied on technologies designed for adults, which increases the risk of misplacement and potential harm to the smallest patients. This often necessitates confirmation via X-ray, exposing vulnerable infants to radiation and procedural delays.

Navi's Neonav® system directly addresses these challenges by providing real-time, ECG-guided catheter placement specifically for infants. The technology also enables ongoing surveillance to monitor for catheter migration, a feature that improves patient safety throughout treatment. This capability reduces the reliance on repeated imaging and sets a new benchmark for care in paediatric vascular access.

Strategic Funding for US Market Entry

The $6.8 million funding round was spearheaded by a $4 million investment from KP Rx, with strong support from existing investor Innovation Victoria and Pacific Channel. These funds will be instrumental in scaling up manufacturing operations and building out the company's US commercial team. The capital injection is timed to support the launch of the Neonav® into leading American children's hospitals this year.

Hashan De Silva, a partner at KP Rx, noted that Navi has reached a significant commercial inflection point with this development. He stated that the company has developed a genuinely differentiated technology that addresses a substantial unmet clinical need. KP Rx is excited to support the team as they scale and establish Neonav® as an important new tool in neonatal care.

A Foundation of Regulatory and Clinical Success

This financial milestone follows a period of significant regulatory achievements for the company, building a strong foundation for market entry. Navi received US FDA 510(k) clearance for the Neonav® in 2025, followed by an expanded indication for use in 2026. Clinical evaluations of the device are already underway at two prominent US children's hospitals, validating its clinical utility.

According to Navi cofounder and CEO Alex Newton, the Neonav® was specifically built to change the status quo for the youngest patients. He explained that for decades, clinicians have had to use technologies that were never intended for infants. This investment will allow the company to partner with leading hospitals to establish a new standard of care.

Investor confidence is further echoed by partners like Roland Toder of Pacific Channel, who praised the team's impressive navigation of a demanding regulatory pathway. This execution has positioned the company for strong future growth and reinforces its potential as a global leader in its category. The successful milestones demonstrate the global relevance and potential of Australian-developed medical technology.

With this substantial $6.8 million in funding, Navi Medical Technologies is poised to make a significant impact on paediatric critical care in the United States. The investment validates the company's innovative approach and solidifies its path toward commercialization and widespread adoption. The launch of Neonav® promises to enhance patient safety and establish a new, higher standard for vascular access procedures in vulnerable infants.
