Mokobara, a design-led travel and lifestyle brand, has raised Rs 170 crore, approximately USD 18 million, in a Series C round led by Sauce.vc. Peak XV Partners, AYRA Ventures, Niveshaay Investment and existing backers also participated. The company has not issued a formal statement, but the round underscores growing investor confidence in premium Indian luggage and travel accessories.
Funding Structure and Shareholding
Regulatory filings show Mokobara’s board approved 1,300 Series C compulsorily convertible preference shares at Rs 6.2 lakh each, totalling Rs 80 crore, and allotted 199 more shares at Rs 5.4 lakh each for Rs 10.7 crore. The combined new issuance of Rs 90.66 crore is lower than the reported Rs 170 crore round. Sauce.vc said its own cheque of Rs 109 crore exceeded this new issuance, indicating that a portion of the transaction involved secondary share purchases.
Valuation and Ownership Changes
The reported post-money valuation stands at around Rs 1,930 crore, roughly USD 203 million, compared with Rs 700 crore at the Series B in February 2024. After allotment, Sauce.vc holds 20.48 percent, Peak XV holds 16.76 percent, and Saama Capital holds 13.65 percent. Co-founders Sangeet Agrawal and Navin Parwal hold 21.46 percent and 11.25 percent respectively, leaving them with about a third of the company combined.
Strategic Read on the Transaction
The gap among the announced round, the regulatory filings, and Sauce.vc's stated investment is most consistent with a secondary component. Secondary transactions do not create new shares or add cash to the company; they transfer ownership from earlier investors to new ones. If this reading is accurate, Mokobara receives roughly Rs 91 crore in fresh capital while early shareholders sell around Rs 79 crore at a valuation that has nearly tripled.
Founding and Category Strategy
Mokobara was founded in 2019 by Sangeet Agrawal and Navin Parwal, who previously worked at Urban Ladder and observed how design could turn furniture into a premium category. They spent eighteen months developing their first product and were rejected by 33 investors before Sauce.vc wrote the first cheque. Sauce.vc has now backed the company from the idea stage through this growth-stage investment, signalling long-term conviction in the brand.
Financial Trajectory
Mokobara’s operating revenue nearly doubled to Rs 230.15 crore in FY25 from Rs 117.44 crore in FY24, which had itself more than doubled from Rs 53 crore. Net loss widened to Rs 10.18 crore from Rs 4.24 crore during the same period. The loss remains modest at around 4.4 percent of sales, while FY26 figures have not yet been disclosed.
Retail Expansion and Market Potential
The brand sells luggage, backpacks, totes, slings, wallets and travel accessories through its own website, Amazon and Flipkart. It has around 50 stores across Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai and Pune, and opened its first international store in Dubai in February 2025. Mokobara competes with labels such as Wildcraft, Urban Monkey, Uppercase, Eume, VIP and American Tourister in a domestic luggage market projected to reach Rs 26,700 crore by 2028.
The Series C round marks a significant moment for Mokobara, reinforcing its position in India's premium travel goods segment. The gap between the announced amount and the freshly issued shares indicates a structured deal that likely provided partial exits to early investors while bringing in new growth capital. As the company expands offline and internationally, maintaining store-level profitability and continued revenue growth will be the next key tests.
