Canadian investment firm Malar Group has officially announced its acquisition of Freeda, a prominent European social-first media brand. The deal gives the firm, led by founder and CEO Sayan Navaratnam, worldwide ownership of the brand and its digital assets. This strategic move is set to revive the platform, which was created for Millennial and Gen Z women.

A New Chapter for a Social Media Pioneer

The acquisition encompasses the global Freeda brand, its Italian and Spanish social platforms, and the official domain. Founded in Milan in 2016, Freeda was built natively for social media, focusing on short-form video and graphics. Its mission has consistently been to amplify real women's stories and inspire positive change in its audience.

At its height, Freeda cultivated a massive community of more than 11 million followers across its platforms. The brand reached 150 million people monthly and generated over 100 million annual interactions. Its engagement levels on Instagram even surpassed legacy media titles like Vogue and Cosmopolitan, attracting major brand partners.

Strategic Vision and Relaunch Plans

Under its new ownership, Freeda is slated for a comprehensive relaunch across all its social channels. Malar Group plans a renewed investment in the authentic storytelling that originally built the brand's dedicated following. The new phase will focus on strengthening core markets, deepening content, and expanding both community and commercial partnerships.

Sayan Navaratnam, founder and CEO of Malar Group, highlighted the brand's foundational principles as the key attraction. He noted that millions of women believed in Freeda's mission to represent and empower them. Navaratnam affirmed his firm's commitment to providing the resources and long-term backing needed for its resurgence.

Aligning with Investment Philosophy

This acquisition aligns perfectly with Malar Group's broader investment philosophy, which targets opportunities at the intersection of key growth sectors. The firm focuses on technology, brand, content, and consumer behavior, which are all reshaping modern business. Freeda represents a prime asset that fits squarely within this strategic framework for growth and innovation.

Malar Group intends to function as an active partner in Freeda's next chapter of development. The firm's involvement will extend beyond financial investment to include hands-on strategic support and guidance. The ultimate goal is to rebuild Freeda's standing as a leading and influential voice for women throughout Europe.

The acquisition of Freeda by Malar Group marks a pivotal moment for the once-dominant social media brand. With a clear strategy focused on its original mission and renewed financial backing, the platform is positioned for a comeback. This partnership aims to restore Freeda's influence and reconnect with the community that valued its empowering voice.
