Latin American legal technology startup Magnar has raised an $8 million Series A to expand its artificial intelligence platform for lawyers across the region. The company, which launched a little over a year ago, says its technology is now used by around 30,000 users and 350 law firms. The new financing will support product development, team expansion, deeper penetration in existing markets, and entry into Brazil and Mexico.

Building AI Tools for Legal Professionals

Magnar has developed an AI platform designed to support lawyers with legal research, large-scale information analysis, and the drafting and review of legal documents. The company aims to reduce the amount of time legal professionals spend on repetitive research and document-related work, allowing them to concentrate more heavily on legal reasoning and case strategy. Its technology also integrates with widely used workplace tools, including Microsoft Word and Outlook, to fit more directly into existing legal workflows.

A central part of Magnar's approach is its focus on jurisdiction-specific legal information, including legislation and case law for the individual markets where it operates. Users can access and review the references underlying the platform's responses, enabling lawyers to independently verify sources and make their own professional judgments. Magnar positions the technology as an assistance tool rather than a replacement for legal decision-making, with responsibility for interpretation and legal conclusions remaining with the user.

Expanding Across Latin America

Magnar currently operates in Chile, Peru, Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Uruguay, giving the company an established footprint across several Latin American legal markets. With the Series A proceeds, it plans to deepen its presence particularly in Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Argentina while continuing to develop its operations in the other countries it already serves. The company intends to expand its legal databases, strengthen its research and drafting capabilities, and further adapt the platform to the requirements of each national legal system.

Brazil and Mexico represent Magnar's next major geographic expansion, with the startup planning to establish commercial teams and offices in both countries. According to the company, the two markets together represent approximately 1.9 million lawyers, creating a significant potential customer base for its legal AI technology. Magnar is currently developing the legislation and case-law infrastructure needed to support the countries' more complex federal legal systems.

Series A Backed by Regional and International Investors

The $8 million Series A was led by UK-based investment firm 6 Degrees Capital, with Mexican venture capital firm Hi Ventures participating as co-lead. Existing and additional investors in the financing include FEN Ventures, Platanus Ventures, and Nascent Ventures, providing Magnar with backing from investors across different markets. The round is intended primarily to finance hiring, technology development, market expansion, and the continued localization of the platform.

Magnar has also attracted investment from prominent Latin American law firms, reflecting growing interest from legal industry participants in the adoption of artificial intelligence tools. Argentine law firm Beccar Varela joined the company as an investor in the latest round, following an earlier investment from Chilean firm Carey. Their participation gives Magnar financial backing from organizations that also operate directly within the professional market the startup is seeking to serve.

Scaling Product Development

The company plans to expand its development team as it increases the breadth of legal information available through the platform and improves its research, analysis, and document-generation capabilities. Building localized legal technology requires Magnar to account for differences in legislation, judicial systems, terminology, and professional practices across each country. The financing will therefore support both technical development and the detailed jurisdiction-specific work required as the platform scales.

Chief Executive Officer Andrés Arellano said the company was created specifically around the needs of lawyers in Latin America, including the region's different legal codes, languages, and working practices. He said the Series A will allow Magnar to invest additional resources in improving the platform for existing customers while extending its services to more legal professionals. The expansion strategy reflects the company's ambition to build a regional legal AI platform rather than relying on technology developed primarily for other legal systems.

Magnar's $8 million Series A provides the startup with additional capital to strengthen its position in existing Latin American markets while entering two of the region's largest legal economies. Its focus on localized legal sources, verifiable references, and integration with everyday professional tools is intended to address the specific requirements of lawyers operating across different jurisdictions. As Brazil and Mexico come online, the company's ability to maintain legal accuracy and adapt its technology to local practices will be central to the next stage of its growth.
