The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) fined Move It ₱555.75 million. The motorcycle taxi platform allegedly onboarded riders beyond its authorized limit. The penalty addresses a breach of the government's Motorcycle Taxi Pilot Program rules.
Details of the breach
The company had 73,321 active riders across Metro Manila, Cebu, and Cagayan de Oro. This number exceeded its approved allocation of 17,746 riders. The LTFRB calculated the fine at ₱10,000 for each of the 55,575 excess riders.
The company's position
Move It is contesting the fine and has filed a motion for reconsideration. The company defended its actions by describing rider allocation as a dynamic supply measure. It also used internal rider classifications, which the regulator did not accept.
Regulator's next steps
The LTFRB confirmed the decision is not yet final pending the legal process. The agency also raised concerns for the riders who joined the platform in good faith. It is now crafting measures to address the situation for these affected individuals.
Failure to pay the fine could result in serious consequences for Move It. The LTFRB may suspend the company's authority to participate in the pilot program. This could ultimately lead to the revocation of its accreditation.
