LG CNS Joins CuspAI's Global AI Materials Foundry

LG CNS has joined the 'AI Materials Foundry,' a global consortium dedicated to accelerating new material development through artificial intelligence. This strategic move places the Korean IT services leader alongside tech giants like Nvidia, Meta, and AMD. The collaboration aims to provide domestic companies with access to cutting-edge AI tools for innovation.


A Global Alliance for Material Innovation

The AI Materials Foundry is a global alliance of 48 leading companies and research institutions, including Samsung and Hyundai Motor Group. Its primary goal is to revolutionize the discovery of new materials by integrating high-quality data and computing infrastructure. This collaborative ecosystem aims to significantly reduce the time and cost associated with traditional research and development.

Leveraging CuspAI's Advanced Platform

At the core of the consortium is CuspAI, a UK-based startup advised by Nobel laureate Geoffrey Hinton. The company recently secured approximately $450 million in funding from investors including Jeff Bezos, reaching a valuation of approximately $2.9 billion. CuspAI's agentic AI platform combines artificial intelligence with material science to design and discover optimal new substances.

The platform's effectiveness was demonstrated by Finnish chemical company Kemira, which used it to explore 300 trillion molecular structures. This process identified 20 promising new material candidates, reducing a development timeline from several years to just six months. The AI system generates and validates a vast number of potential materials based on user-defined properties and conditions.

LG CNS as a Strategic Delivery Partner

As a platform delivery partner, LG CNS will enable Korean manufacturing and materials companies to leverage this global research ecosystem. This support allows firms to pursue new material development without investing in expensive equipment or large-scale AI infrastructure. LG CNS will manage everything from data processing and result interpretation to platform operation and maintenance.

The partnership also addresses critical concerns regarding intellectual property and data security, which are paramount for materials companies. Client data is managed in isolated, dedicated servers and is not reused for AI model training. Furthermore, the client company explicitly retains full patent ownership for any new materials developed through the platform.


This initiative marks a significant step for the Korean materials industry, positioning AI as an essential tool for competitive advantage. By acting as a key AI Transformation partner, LG CNS aims to help domestic firms utilize a world-class research ecosystem to achieve tangible business results. The collaboration underscores the growing importance of AI in driving industrial innovation and shortening development cycles.
