Helsing unveiled Contra, an AI-controlled autonomous air defense system, along with two interceptor missiles, AD-1 Inferno and AD-2 Ambush. The military AI company said the system can detect and engage hundreds or thousands of threats at the same time. It is designed to protect countries from large drone and missile attacks.
Threat backdrop
Russia now produces 4,000 Geran-4 and Geran-5 jet drones per month, according to Helsing. Russia is also adding launch sites for these drones. The company said this brings parts of the EU within range of potential Russian attacks.
How Contra works
Contra runs on Helsing's Altra C2 platform. It fuses sensors and effectors into a single air picture. Human operators retain control over targeting decisions and priorities.
Interceptor details
AD-1 Inferno is a jet-powered interceptor that can loiter, swarm, and re-engage. AD-2 Ambush is a solid-rocket motor missile that reaches Mach 2.5 and a range of more than 20 kilometers. Both interceptors are container-launched and carry onboard radar seekers for all-weather terminal guidance.
Helsing will mass-produce the interceptors at its Resilience Factories. The company said unit prices will be significantly lower than existing missile interceptors. Contra can also integrate third-party hardware, including lasers, guns, and net-based systems, within days.
