Tanzanian healthtech startup Medikea has raised US$1.2 million in Pre-Seed funding. The company combines 24/7 virtual consultations with its own clinics, pharmacies, and diagnostic labs. Backers include Baobab Network, Catalyst Fund, develoPPP Ventures, and Madica.
Expansion plans
Medikea is opening two new clinics in Arusha and Morogoro. That brings its network to four locations. The new capital will support growth, product development, and specialist services.
Company model
Medikea employs a salaried clinical team and builds its technology in-house. It focuses on outpatient care and refers patients to partner hospitals for surgery and advanced procedures. Madica said its first clinic reached break-even within 12 months and handles about 1,000 patients monthly.
What patients get
Patients can start a consultation online at any hour. They can visit a Medikea clinic for exams, fill prescriptions at its pharmacy, and follow up remotely. The platform also covers specialist services, including pediatrics, women's health, dermatology, fertility, and chronic disease clinics.
Medikea plans to serve more than 100,000 patients over the next 12 months. It aims to grow from four clinics to 10 across Tanzania by the end of 2027. It also plans to expand regionally after that.
