Observability platform groundcover has successfully secured $100 million in a Series C funding round, bringing its total capital raised to $160 million. The round was led by growth equity firm One Peak, with significant participation from Morgan Stanley Expansion Capital and existing investors. This investment will fuel the company's mission to redefine observability for the artificial intelligence era, addressing the escalating data challenges faced by modern enterprises.

Addressing the AI-Era Observability Challenge

The rapid adoption of cloud-native technologies and AI is causing an explosion in telemetry data volumes, which are doubling every few months. Legacy observability platforms struggle to handle this scale, forcing engineering teams to sample, throttle, or silo their data. This approach creates visibility gaps that are unacceptable for AI agents that require complete and accurate information for autonomous operations.

A Novel Architectural Approach

Groundcover differentiates itself with a unique architecture built on a bring-your-own-cloud (BYOC) model. Its platform utilizes an adaptive eBPF sensor that deploys in minutes without requiring code changes to capture full-fidelity telemetry. This data is then stored securely within the customer's own cloud premises, eliminating the need to transfer sensitive information to a third-party vendor.

By combining eBPF with native OpenTelemetry support, the platform provides a comprehensive data foundation without sampling or cardinality limits. This allows groundcover to offer a more cost-effective pricing model not directly tied to data volume, a stark contrast to incumbents like Datadog. The company's "Agent Mode" leverages this rich data to help engineers and AI agents collaborate on troubleshooting and remediation.

Investor confidence in this model is high, with David Klein of One Peak stating that the AI era demands a completely different architecture that only groundcover has built. CEO Shahar Azulay emphasized that the platform harnesses eBPF's potential with the power of BYOC for observability. This unique combination is designed to support the next generation of autonomous software operations.

Impressive Growth and Strategic Expansion

The funding follows a period of substantial growth for the company, which was founded in 2021. Over the past year, groundcover has tripled its annual recurring revenue and doubled its global headcount to 140 employees. The company now serves over 250 paying customers, from startups to Fortune 5 enterprises, and has closed multiple seven-figure deals.

With the new capital, groundcover plans to aggressively scale its go-to-market operations, particularly in North America where it is increasingly displacing legacy providers. A significant portion of the funds will also be allocated to expanding into new geographic markets and deepening its co-sell partnerships with major cloud providers. This strategic investment aims to solidify its market position and accelerate customer acquisition globally.

Product innovation remains a core focus, with funds earmarked to enhance the platform's AI capabilities and expand into new use cases. The company intends to further develop its agentic experience, aiming to change how engineers and AI agents collaborate to achieve true autonomy in production environments. This forward-looking roadmap is central to its strategy of becoming the foundational grid for modern software.

This $100 million investment marks a significant milestone for groundcover, validating its innovative approach to observability in an industry grappling with data overload. By providing a scalable, private, and cost-effective solution, the company is well-positioned to become a category leader in the AI era. The substantial funding will empower groundcover to accelerate its vision of enabling autonomous operations for the next generation of software.
