German defence technology company Ground A has closed a pre-seed financing round of €9.1 million, marking its first public step after months of focused product development. Founded in January 2026, the company has already moved its GA 1000 laser-based counter-drone system from prototype into testing and validation. The funding, completed in June and led by Vsquared Ventures, is intended to support industrialisation and the creation of a broader air defence product platform.
Rapid Transition from Prototype to Validation
The GA 1000 has progressed from concept to a testing phase within just a few months of Ground A's establishment. The company deliberately remained quiet during its early months to prioritise engineering and technology delivery over public attention. With the system now entering testing and validation, Ground A is preparing for market launch and wider visibility.
A Broad Investor Base
The round was led by Vsquared Ventures and included participation from Quantum Systems as well as venture capital investors such as GRIF, Robin Capital, ABACON, Leblon Capital and OVNI Capital. Experienced entrepreneurs and investors from the European defence and software sectors also joined, including Florian Seibel, Sven Kruck, J14 Capital, Andreas Nauerz, Marlon Braumann and Stefan Roebel of Arx Robotics. This consortium combines financial backing with strategic and operational knowledge to support rapid scaling.
GA 1000 Capabilities and Open Architecture
The GA 1000 integrates radar and a range of sensors with computer vision, proprietary artificial intelligence and precise laser effects. It automatically detects, classifies and tracks small, agile drones while a human operator retains the decision to use the effector. Compact enough for a Euro-pallet footprint, the system is mobile and built around an open, vendor-agnostic architecture that allows integration into existing air defence and command systems as well as land, sea and air platforms.
Industrialisation and Series Production
Ground A is focusing on industrialisation and scaling in parallel with the GA 1000's validation. The company is establishing modular series production in Germany and expects a next financing round planned for 2027 to significantly expand production capacity. This approach is designed to make modern and cost-efficient defence systems available across Europe at scale.
European Security Context
The launch comes as European governments place greater emphasis on protecting critical infrastructure and military assets from small drone threats. Ground A argues that effective counter-drone systems must be mobile, rapidly deployable and available at scale, not only high performing in controlled demonstrations.
